In December 2020, inspired by David Attenborough’s documentary “A Life on our Planet”, several North Shore, Illinois, families founded the non-profit organization Lands for Biological Diversity (LBD) in an attempt to help mitigate climate change, protect biodiversity, and provide sanctuary for endangered flora and fauna. Its first project is the planned acquisition of a landscape scale property that will be named The Fox River Wetlands Sanctuary, to be protected in perpetuity.
LBD is an all-volunteer 501(c)3 Tax Exempt non profit organization, no salaries nor expenses are paid out. Therefore, one hundred percent of all donations are used to acquire sanctuary land which will be protected in perpetuity through a conservation easement.
